Carara is a relatively small national park but is very important for being a transition area between the Tropical Dry Forest and the Tropical Rain Forest. Its geographical location helps to have one of the largest remaining wild populations of Scarlet Macaws, most popular known as the Ara Macao.
The Grand Tarcoles River crosses this park, home to a great variety of animals and birds, which attracts many birdwatchers who consider this area, one of the best spots to watch tropical birds.
After a walk through the national park, you will be visiting the Villa Lapas Hanging Bridges, a network of suspension bridges that crosses through the very heart of the tropical rainforest. During the walk, you will find some scenic spots where on a clear day you can see the Pacific Ocean and the Tarcoles River.
